The 32nd annual Shrimpfest is set to swing into gear this weekend.
The event will feature a shrimp-eating contest, live music, a 5K run, a kids fishing tournament and a myriad of other activities for the whole family.
The event is sponsored by the Seadrift Chamber of Commerce. Organizers expect between 3,000 to 3,500 people to attend the event this year, Seadrift Chamber of Commerce Vice President Nan Burnett said.
"We've got a great lineup this year though, so we're hoping for an even bigger turnout," Burnett said.
Shrimpfest helps the Seadrift Chamber of Commerce raise money for scholarships, and is a way to promote tourism in the city, Burnett said.
The bay front in Seadrift will be hopping with hours of live music, contests and food and drink vendors on Friday and Saturday.
Musician Cody Johnson is set to be the headliner on Friday evening. The 2011 Battle of the Bands winners 24-7 will open for Johnson.
Jarod Birmingham is slated as the opening act on Saturday evening. Jason Bowland and the Stragglers will be headlining the show.
Wild West Shows and Shootouts will be conducted throughout the day.
Those in the competitive mood may take part in a horseshoe tournament, a volleyball and washer tournament.
Admission fees are $5. Children 6 and under are admitted for free.
