Heat index could reach 110 Monday

Sunny and hot Monday with a high near 98. Heat index values as high as 108. South wind between 8 and 18 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph.

Heat indices between 105 and 109 degrees are expected for the northern Coastal Bend and Victoria Crossroads, according to the National Weather Service.

Heat index values may briefly reach 110 degrees in urban locations.

Residents with outdoor activities planned are urged to drink plenty of water, wear light weight and light colored clothing and take frequent breaks from the heat.

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any

circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes, according to the NWS.

Partly cloudy Monday night with a low around 78. South wind 15 to 18 mph decreasing to between 6 and 9 mph. Winds could gust as high as 24 mph.
