• Teams: Victoria West, Victoria East, St. Joseph, Cuero, Edna, Goliad

Victoria East spent a good portion of spring football practice working on the offense installed by first-year head coach Roland Gonzalez.

"It's a lot more passing," said senior quarterback Cameron Schultz. "Not as much under center. You have to stay in there and throw the ball."

The learning process continued for Schultz and fellow senior quarterback Mark Cavazos during 7 on 7 games Tuesday night at Memorial Stadium.

The seniors alternated by series as the Titans played Edna and Victoria West. Cuero, Goliad and St. Joseph also participated.

"Experience," Gonzalez said when asked what he wanted to see from his quarterbacks. "Both of them have very limited experience at the position and it's important that they get as many snaps as they can at this point and have time to try and feel comfortable back there by the time they get back."

Schultz played sparingly as junior. He completed 5 of 16 passes for 46 yards and rushed 16 times for 57 yards and one touchdown.

Schultz played three series against Edna. He threw a touchdown pass and the team turned the ball over on downs twice.

Schultz threw touchdown passes on all three of his series against West.

"I just want to learn where our receivers are going to be at next year and see what's going to be open and just try and get better," he said. "Getting used to them is the main deal. If you don't get used to them, you won't know where they're at. It's really helping doing the 7 on 7."

Cavazos missed most of last season with a knee injury.

He threw an interception and the Titans turned the ball over on downs in his two series against Edna.

He threw an interception and a touchdown pass against West.

"It's pretty much just working on timing and getting ready for where we're going to be at during the games," said Cavazos, who played receiver when he wasn't taking snaps. "We're pretty much trying to get ready for the season and let everybody know how it's going to be and what we're going to run so we'll be ready."

Gonzalez was pleased with his quarterbacks performance and expects them to become more comfortable with the offense each time out.

"The big thing is we want to throw and catch and get better at that," he said. "We've never done 7 on 7 here at East. This is our first time out and there's a learning curve. We've got a lot of room for improvement. The kids are doing a great job."
