Residents of Matagorda County wanting information about hurricane season will be able to learn more at this years conference.
The 2012 Matagorda County hurricane awareness conference will take place on Saturday, June 16 at the Wharton County Junior College Center for Energy Development.
The conference is sponsored by Texas AgriLife Extension Service, county of Matagorda, city of Palacios, city of Bay City and the Rio Colorado chapter of the American Red Cross, Bay City Chamber of Commerce & Agrigulture, South Texas Project and other local organizations.
The event will include speakers, vendors and exhibitors that will demonstrate the latest equipment, services, and supplies for families in preparation for hurricane season.
The conference will also have a panel of emergency management personnel to answer questions from the public.
The panel will include Bay City Mayor Mark Bricker, Matagorda County Judge Nate McDonald, Emergency Management director Doug Mattes.
The purpose of this conference will be to provide the public with information on how to prepare their family and property in advance of a hurricane or tropical storm threat to this area, said Kim Russell, Texas AgriLife Extension Service.
A representative from the National Weather Service will speak about the 2012 hurricane season outlook.
This year, the National OCeanic and Atmospheric Administration is predicting a near norlam hurricane season.
