Power outage hits Victoria neighborhoods

A power outage left more than 2,000 Victoria residences in the dark Sunday morning.

Elgin Janssen, American Electric Power spokesman, said the outage started about 4:30 a.m. when an underground conductor failed.

The outage affected subdivisions in Inwood Terrace, Crestwood, and near John Stockbauer Drive and Rowland Magnet Elementary School.

"The equipment has a life to it and anything, especially in the summertime when there's a heavy load related, the equipment will fail," Janssen said. "Most of the times we can catch these trouble spots before they occur with routine maintenance but, once in a while, one will creep through."

Power was restored to most customers by 6:30 a.m. Twenty-three remaining customers had power back by 7:15 a.m., he said.
