Man convicted of killing College Station woman

BRYAN, Texas (AP) - A Central Texas man has been convicted of killing a woman whose wounded 9-year-old son managed to call a relative for help.

The penalty phase began Thursday in Bryan for 47-year-old Stanley Lamar Griffin. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

A Brazos County jury on Wednesday convicted Griffin of capital murder in the strangling of an acquaintance, 29-year-old Jennifer Hailey. Investigators say Hailey and her son were attacked at their College Station home.

The boy called his grandma to say a man killed his mother and "choked" him. The boy, who's now 11, suffered stab wounds.

DNA evidence helped link Griffin to the attacks.
