  • Thank you for the article. This is actually what I believe to be wrong with VISD. I have also heard many stories about middle schoolers attacking teachers. They get sent out of the classroom, just to be sent right back. It is as if these kids and their parents are running our schools! My son is going into 4th grade at an area elementary school where they don't put up with it. His middle school is PW, but I will be pulling him out to home school him after 5th. Since VISD can't control these kids, my kid will stay home!

  • Point well made. My concern is that there is a mentality among a number of adults and children that they don't want anything to do with the Golden Rule. I think they are perfectly satisfied in making life miserable for others because their life is empty and miserable. Some of us know if you don't have the Spirit you will be miserable. And how do you receive the Spirit? Next article Jennifer.

  • LOL, I remember many years ago one of my classmates calling a Coach a name I cannot use here. Now this coach was a pretty good guy and I can't remember what caused this to escalate to the point it did. This classmate puffed his chest out to that coach and the coach laid him out almost immediately. LOL!!!

It really was funny but if that happened nowadays, the parents would come racing in to rescue the child or sue the school district, even when the kid is clearly wrong.

Now I'm not advocating teachers or coaches start beating up kids but every once in a while a kid deserves whatever he/she gets.

My classmate did that day and it is still funny 40 years later. I can still picture him bowing up to that coach and watching as he hit the ground about 1/2 a second later. Needless to say, he didn't call that coach any names after that. LOL!!!

  • Ms. Preyss,
I TOTALLY AGREE WITH EVERYTHING you have said in your article! I see this type of behavior just about everywhere I go here in Victoria. Not to long ago, I remember reading about a student attacking a teacher. I also know FIRST HAND of a junior high student attacking a security member at Stroman. Unfortunately, the schools can only do so much to "educate." Once they leave the class, it is up to the parents to continue the discipline and keep the kids pointed in the right direction. That, too, may not always happen. "Outside forces" influence our children- gangs, music, "it's cool to be tough"
    --------------------------------------ZERO TOLERANCE !--------------------------------
The "GOLDEN RULE" has seen it's day, and it would be nice if it could be enforced, but again, I feel" ZERO TOLERANCE" would help enforce THE GOLDEN RULE.

    ------------------------Just my 2 Cents----------

    -------------------Oh, Well--------------------------
