Here is the 2012 Victoria Advocate all-area softball team:



2012 MOST VALUABLE PLAYER

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Andrea Hawkins, sr. Bay City: The Alabama signee batted .533 with 27 stolen bases and a home run.



DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Courtney Mica, sr., Flatonia: McLennan signee was strong with the glove for state title winning Lady Bulldogs.



CO-PITCHERS OF THE YEAR

Madison Garza, so. and Miranda Hogsed, sr., Industrial: Garza 1.89 ERA in 81 2/3 IP and 112 Ks; Hogsed, 2.09 ERA in 69 2/3 IP



NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR

Amanda Sohrt, fr., St. Joseph: Freshman pitcher and outfielder came up big for Lady Flyers as second pitcher and power hitter.



COACH OF THE YEAR

Rodney Stryk, Flatonia: Head coach of state title winning team that finished second in its district.



FIRST TEAM



MAEGAN MARTIN

Pitcher, senior, Cuero

The Concordia signee helped pace a resurgent Cuero team this year.



HOLLY PARENICA

Pitcher, senior, St. Joseph

The rock of the Flyers the last four years had another stellar season in the circle.



KATIE STEINHAUSER

Pitcher, sophomore, Flatonia

The sophomore pitcher helped the Lady Bulldogs reach the state tournament with a 1.39 ERA.



LEXIE ELKINS

Catcher, junior, Victoria East

One of two big bats in the Titans lineup, she batted .530 with 1 home run.



JENNIE JOHNSON

First base, senior, Victoria East

The Arkansas-Monticello signee set up much of the Titans powerful offense, and was on base more than half the time.



ALEX BRUNS

Second base, senior, Flatonia

A solid defender and batter, she was .333 at the plate this year, but had an on-base percentage of .620.



MARINA RIOS

Third base, senior, Victoria East

The Galveston College signee batted .444 with 3 home runs.



SEVANAH CAMPOS-REYES

Shortstop, senior, Victoria West

The McLennan signee was key to the Warriors offense this season.



PAIGE TERRELL

Outfield, junior, St. Joseph

A sparkplug for the Lady Flyers who set up many of the powerful bats that followed in the lineup.



ALEXA SCHAEFER

Outfield, junior, St. Paul

Centerfielder for the Lady Cardinals batted .642, helping team to TAPPS 1A/2A championship.



BRIANNA PAYNE

Outfield, senior, Bay City

The Ole Miss signee batted .413 for the Blackcats with two home runs.



ALLENA CANNADY

Outfield, junior, Victoria West

A strong defender and a sparkplug at the top of the Warriors lineup, who came up with the right hit at the right time often.



TIFFANY CASTILLO

Utility, senior, Calhoun

The Sam Houston State signee capped off her prep career batting .603 with 7 home runs.
