College Q&A: UHV offers facilities for community events
My church is hosting a youth camp at the end of July, and we are looking for somewhere to hold it. Does UHV have any facilities available for events such as this one?
UHV has a number of rooms and housing options available for summer conferences, workshops, family reunions and youth programs and camps.
These include conference rooms and classrooms available in the UHV University West or University Center buildings, both located at 3007 N. Ben Wilson St., and in Jaguar Hall, a residence hall located at 2705 Houston Highway.
In addition, during the summer, UHV offers housing options at both Jaguar Hall and its other residence hall, Jaguar Court, located at 2605 Houston Highway.
Lunch and dinner are served Monday through Friday at Jaguar Hall during the summer and catering services are available.
The rental options allow event organizers to give participants a chance to experience a university setting. For some, it is the first time they have been on a college campus.
"Organizers can provide an overall college experience and emphasize the importance of getting a degree," said Kim Pickens, the UHV facilities sales coordinator.
The available conference rooms at UHV will seat 15 to 30 people, depending on the room. UHV's largest conference room is the University Center Multi-Purpose Room, which can hold up to 150 people and can be divided into four smaller rooms.
Classrooms can be used for breakout sessions or smaller meetings. They can hold 30 to 50 people, Pickens said.
Housing options for those holding events at the university include single- and double-occupancy rooms with private baths. The rooms in both Jaguar Hall and Jaguar Court are newly remodeled.
