BCHS job training co-op program thanks local businesses at banquet

June 27, 2012 at 1:27 a.m.

The Bay City High School DECA program students honored their program supporters at their annual banquet on April 19 at the Bay City Country Club. The community support these students receive is vital to the program's existence. Year after year area businesses employ DECA students and serve as mentors and job training stations where students learn invaluable job skills to better prepare them for life after high school.

DECA program employers for this past school year were: South Texas Nuclear Operating Company, OXEA, LyondellBasell, BayCel Federal Credit Union, Bay City Housing Authority, Celanese, HEB, Wal-Mart, A&A Bar-B-Que, and Dental Arts of Bay City.

DECA Leadership Sponsors this past school year helped fund the DECA program activities, and include: Gold Level - OXEA; Silver Level - LyondellBasell; Bronze Level - BayCel Federal Credit Union and South Texas Nuclear Operating Company.

Donating door prizes for the banquet were: Dr. Crayden Dennard's office, A & A Bar-B-Que, The Basket Shop, BayCel Federal Credit Union, HEB, and Lagniappe by Design. All door prizes went to the employers at the DECA Employer Appreciation Banquet in appreciation for all they do to train and guide the Bay City High School students throughout the year.

Over 40 students have shown interest in working in next year's DECA Co-op program and any business wishing to employ a Co-op/DECA student in the afternoons for 15 hours a week or so may contact DECA program director Dianne Farrar at BCHS at 245-5771 X1507. dfarrar@bcblackcats.net
