Victoria police investigate the scene after an auto-pedestrian accident along Zac Lentz Parkway. An 11-year-old was struck Sunday as he tried to cross parkway just after midnight.

An 11-year-old boy struck by an SUV early Sunday morning died several hours later in a hospital in San Antonio.

Dylan Gray, 11, of Shiner, was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Zac Lentz Parkway with his mother and two other adults just after midnight, said Senior Patrol Officer Herschel Buck.

The boy fought for his life for several hours before he died at 9:38 a.m. in a hospital in San Antonio.

The accident occurred just after midnight at the westbound on-ramp just west of Navarro Street in Victoria.

The boy was with three adults walking from the IHOP restaurant to the Super 8 motel just south of the parkway, or Loop 463, Buck said.

Buck said the boy was hit by a Chevrolet Tahoe that was accelerating to enter the parkway. The vehicle, driven by 27-year-old Nathan Ancarrow, of Cuero, was moving about 50 mph, Buck said.

Buck said alcohol was not a factor and the Tahoe driver was not at fault.
