12 candidates meet filing deadline for city council election, VISD, Victoria College

With filing in Victoria's local elections ending Monday, 12 candidates will be on the May 12 ballot.

Each of the four city council races is contested.

For District 1, incumbent Denise Rangel will be up against Emett Alvarez.

For District 2, Josephine Soliz will go against Gene Rice.

Incumbent Paul Polasek and John T. Hyak are vying for District 3, while incumbent David Hagan is running against Lewis Neitsch for District 4.

In the Victoria school district races, incumbents Ross Mansker, who represents District 4, and Estella De Los Santos, who represents District 2, are unopposed.

Victoria College's incumbents will be unopposed, too. Incumbents Josie Rivera, who is secretary of the board and represents District 1, and Luis Guerra, vice-chairman and representative of District 2, are unopposed.
