Candidates enter Goliad primaries

Three Goliad County candidates entered the race for their party's nomination in the May 29 primaries.

The extended filing period ended Friday.



Republican Party

Michelle Garcia, 42, is seeking the Republican Party nomination for county tax assessor/collector.

She is the only Republican candidate running for that seat.



Democratic Party

Retired Grandview police chief Don Mitchel, 63, will face Paul San Miguel for the Democratic nomination for Goliad County Sheriff.

Mitchel is also retired from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.

Michael De La Garza, 44, the incumbent Precinct 1 constable, is seeking the Democrat nomination. He is unopposed in the primary.

Anna M. Lopez, the incumbent tax assessor/collector, has dropped out of the race.
