More than $45,500 worth of drugs confiscated after traffic stop
A Rio Grande City woman was arrested Friday after more than 82 pounds of marijuana were found in a false compartment in her car.
A Department of Public Safety trooper stopped a northbound silver Ford Focus station wagon on suspicion of a traffic violation on U.S. Highway 59 at Hill Road near Telferner about 5 p.m. Friday, said Trooper Gerald Bryant.
The trooper received permission to search the car and found a false compartment in the floorboard. Inside the compartment, the trooper found 31 bundles containing 82.6 pounds of marijuana, with an estimated street value of $45,524, Bryant said.
Jessica Arleen Medina, 20, of Rio Grande City, was arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance. She was released from the Victoria County Jail after posting bond.
