  • Solve the growth problem for several decades. Donate Victoria College to UH-V, allow the tax dollars already going to VC to go to UH-V for a set period (ten years?), eliminate duplicate adminstrative costs.

  • While this seems to be an ambitious plan and I like the projections there are some questions that make me think that our "plan" is not big enough. What is the look of the campus in fifteen or twenty years? Once this is started it will only continue to grow and this plan just makes no sense to me. I can only surmise that we are not going to have the impetus behind growth. More of a controlled growth on the lighter side. When something doesn't make sense what is the meaning behind the meaning? I just don't see any smartness to this if you look out twenty years from now and beyond. And then you have to ask. Where is Victoria College going to get it's room for growth? I am surprised they haven't been more protective of their space. I mean look at the growth that is going on now. Somebody has to make some sense out of the future. This exercise hasn't done it for me. It just doesn't make sense. A little sense but not big sense. And big sense is where we need to be. We are going to need more room than what is available at our present location.

  • Wow what a plan. A pedestrian mall that leads from the center building to the street ( a mall to nowhere). A soccer field that gets plowed under and paved over. And more housing for a campus that only has 1,000 students in Victoria.

Great vote of confidence for the athletic program that started from scratch went 0-60 in about 2 seconds and looks like it will cpme to a screeching halt just as quickly.

As a student why would I come to UHV? I look at other schools big and small and they supply things to do for their entire student body. Athetic events to attend, student rec and fitness centers, etc.

This doesn't have any of that

  • Three observations:

    1. Underground tunnels? In Victoria? Sure, lets get the same company that designs our basements to build them... [sarcasm font]

    2. Why share resources with the existing junior college that sits next door? We should find a location way across town (maybe an old rice paddy) and start from scratch - duplicating gyms, student centers, tracks, classrooms, libraries, etc. Damn the cost. [more sarcasm]

    3. If this article was supposed to be about the new master plan at UHV, why is the bulk of it quotes from Armstrong, Patillo and Morrison? (basically stating what a bad idea it is) Is there some bias showing in the coverage here?

  • If this is going to happen, I would much rather see them at a location away from Victoria College. It would seem that they are landlocked. Kind of a shame having to place the student housing across Ben Wilson from the campus. Hopefully they plan to pay for any services that Victoria College already has in place and that they want to share in, otherwise the taxpayer will be asked to ante up even more.

  • What about constructing underground tunnels connecting the existing buildings and dorms to the proposed buildings? The tunnels could be used as "shelter in place" sites in times of disasters such as hurricanes or a martian attack. (just kidding about the martian attack)
