The Cuero ISD Education Foundation recently awarded about $46,000 in grants to teachers in the Cuero school district.

During a district-wide pep rally, 52 teachers and administrators paraded before students and community members to receive grants awards for advancements and unique programs in their classrooms and on their campuses.

"The creativity that comes from educators being excited about what they do is outstanding for our students. They have opportunities to experience and learn in ways that really enhance their futures," said Mike Cavanaugh, high school principal.

"The faculty and administrators in the Cuero school system appreciate the community support through the Cuero ISD Education Foundation, and our students certainly reap the benefits," Cavanaugh added.

The foundation was founded in 2002 to enrich, maintain, and enhance programs within the school district to meet their stated mission of excellence in education.

Now in its 10th year, the foundation's 25-board members have raised more than $880,000, which has funded nearly $462,000 in education grants, $75,000 in designated projects and $23,500 in scholarships.

"In 2012 our goal is to raise $120,000 to meet the $1 million mark," said Debra Baros, executive director of the foundation.

"Every dollar we collect supports the quality education we are so proud of in Cuero," Baros said. "Federal, state and local education budgets are stretched, but we want more for our children. This community has stepped forward and made education a priority as evidenced by their generosity."
