Tickets can be purchased online or in-person for the third annual cooking expo

Tickets go on sale for the Taste of Home Cooking School & Expo on Sunday. The Victoria Advocate will host the largest cooking show in the country staged by the food magazine, Taste of Home.

"We're looking to provide a fun an interactive event for the community as a whole," said Emily Weissmiller, the advocate's marketing manager.

She added the timing of the May 8 event is ideal because it's the Tuesday before Mother's Day.

"It makes for a great gift," Weissmiller said.

Tickets can be purchased online Sunday on victoriaadvocate.com/taste. The Victoria Advocate and The Cooking Depot in Cuero will sell tickets in-person on Monday.

There is a limited amount of reserved seating that cost $50. Purchasers will get seats closer to the stage and a Taste of Home cookbook valued at $30. General seating costs $15.

Each participant will receive a goodie bag with special offers and items, including a free subscription to Taste of Home magazine.

Attendees who bring a canned food donation will be entered into a drawing for a gift basket donated by H-E-B. The proceeds benefit the Food Bank of the Golden Crescent.

Last year, 800 attendees filled the Victoria Community Center, on 2905 E. North Street. Organizers are expecting similar numbers.

The depot will have the exposition from 4 to 6:30 p.m. will be held in the center's dome and annex. The show from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

The Cooking Depot will serve as the show's Presenting Sponsor. The Cuero based business has been involved with the expo all three years.

Culinary Specialist Jamie Dunn will demonstrate 10 recipes, new food products, cooking shortcuts and tips and plating techniques for the cooking show.

Cooking enthusiasts will also get a chance to see the utensils used during the demonstrations, which will be available for purchase on-the-spot.

"It let's everyone in the Crossroads know what we have to offer," said Annette Rath, one of the depot's owners.
