All Tanner Hamilton had to do was look down at an empty bullpen to know what was expected.

Hamilton was the last option for a depleted University of Houston-Victoria pitching staff and he delivered.

Hamilton pitched a complete game to lead the Jaguars to an 11-3 win over Fisher College in the second game of a doubleheader on Sunday at Riverside Stadium.

Fisher College won the first game 7-4 to pick up its first win of the season.

The Falcons completed their annual spring break trip to Texas and will head back to Boston with a 1-15 record.

"I had to lock it down for the full game pretty much," Hamilton said. "It was a little humid and I got a little tired, but we've been conditioning real hard and training for this right here so I was ready for it."

Hamilton surrendered seven hits, four of which came in the final two innings, and walked four, but none in the final three innings.

"Early in the game he was trying to make too many nasty pitches," said UHV coach Terry Puhl. "He was trying to strike out guys. I talked to him early in the game and told him 'You've got to stop that thinking. You just throw the ball and hitters will get themselves out.' They do. They make bad swings.

"What he did early in the game was losing guys with walks or whatever and that's what was getting him into trouble," Puhl added. "You notice in the last part of the game he didn't walk anybody and he was making them hit the ball. They hit the ball, but they hit it at people and he got outs."

Hamilton also got run support from his teammates, as the Jaguars (7-12) had 12 hits.

UHV sent eight batters to the plate in the fourth inning when it scored three runs, and batted around in the fifth when it scored five runs.

"It really felt good to have a week where we played pretty consistently," said designated hitter Creighton Hoke. "Our schedule has been so sporadic that I think when we finally get some games on a consistent basis we're going to turn things around."

Hoke went 4 for 4 with a two-run home run and six RBIs in the second game, coming up a hit and a RBI short of tying school records.

Orlando Quiroga added two hits, including a double, and three RBIs.

"It's just finally seeing pitches on a consistent basis and getting more comfortable," said Hoke, who has three homers and shares the team lead with Tyler Steiner. "I think once our guys find that comfort zone, we're going to start hitting the ball."

UHV had 10 hits in the first game, but was undone by four errors that lead to four unearned runs, and mistakes running the bases.

Starting pitcher Cory Carter gave up four hits, but walked three and hit a batter.

"He too got in trouble with walks," Puhl said. "Quite frankly in that game, we had a couple of plays that should have been made that he would have gotten out and we had a couple of other things that happened that I was not happy about that we addressed.

"Cory threw better. It's not his best outing, but he threw better than he did last time."

The Jaguars took three of four games from Fisher College to win their first series of the season.

"You can see with the hitters they are taking better swings," Puhl said. "It's not like 'OK, now what did I do last week?' Especially for a hitter, you've got to play a little more."

The Jaguars will stay busy playing St. Edward's on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Riverside Stadium, before visiting LSU-Alexandria for doubleheaders Friday and Saturday.
