I'm curious what they are doing as far as security. I know they have some non-commissioned security guards, but what about police. Are they simply going to rely on the Victoria Police Department? Even Victoria College has a couple of police officers and they don't have dorms.
Dorms and academic buildings are needed but where are the rest of the services that universities everywhere provide students?
Universities are like mini cities and provide pretty much everything a student needs on campus.
Under this plan, UHV's campus will be small, landlocked and unable to accommodate the things students require outside of the classroom nor could it accommodate these features in the future.
The Texas State comparison can be taken further, they offer students a recreation center, intramural fields, athletic facilities for their sports teams, student union space, student health services.
UHV's master plan does not address anything outside of dorms and academic buildings, not exactly the things that attract students nor keep them here, let's be honest this isn't Harvard or Yale. Academics is not the reason these students are coming to Victoria. It is likely location and the Jaguar Bribe.
Where is the UH vision for athletic facilities, intramural and student activity space, student union space, and student health needs?
I don't see it which means most of it isn't being planned for and what can be accommodated, will likely be shoehorned into one of the buildings in the master plan.
8 years is not that far away considering construction on anything for 2021 to 2025 would have to be planned for and ground broken likely before we reach 2020. It takes 2 to 3 years to actually build a building and longer when you look at design work.
From the folks with ties to A&M I keep hearing that Sharp and UH's Chancellor are still talking so that is good news.
Problem is 2013 might be too late to keep the momentum Victoria has as an option for students.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!! This is the part that doesn't make sense to me. When you are heading for a brick wall doesn't it make sense to have a plan for what you are going to do when you get there? It baffles me. But not really because we are not on the top of the list of importance for UH and I understand that. I believe that A&M with their leadership would have a better plan. We are not done in 2020. Victoria is just starting with momentum in 2020. Then what? Baffling. If things don't make sense one better pay attention.
