Visitors to the Crossroads area will soon have another place to stay.

Ground breaks March 29 on Victoria's newest hotel, a Homewood Suites at 6705 N.E. Zac Lentz Parkway.

The incoming business will have 109 rooms, said Michael Fallek, president of Castle Hospitality, the hotel's management company. While all rooms will be suites with full kitchens, refrigerators and more, about 60 percent will be studio style and 40 percent one-bedroom.

"Homewood Suites is Hilton's version of apartment living," he said. "It has everything somebody would need for an extended stay, whether it's a week or a year."

The hotel includes a pool, fitness center and sport court with a basketball goal, he said. A meeting room that seats 80 people, as well as three board rooms, also join the mix.

Other additions include free breakfast every morning and a manager's reception each evening, he added, while dinner is available Monday through Thursday.

While the project will employ many people during construction, it means about 35 or 40 permanent jobs for Victoria, Fallek said. That could increase, depending on business.

Plans are to open no later than March 2013.

"Hopefully by January or February," he noted. "But a lot depends on the weather. You know how that is."
