East senior earns Eagle Scout rank
Joseph Andrew Ureste recently earned his Eagle Scout rank. His project involved improving the area for outdoor leadership training at the Girl Scout Hut.
He coordinated 57 man-hours of work by constructing a picnic table, and leading others in trimming trees, clearing grass, and landscaping with sand and gravel in an area designated with timbers. The project was made possible through the expertise of Charlie Mozisek, and donations from James and Carol Deatley, Fordyce, and Renken's.
Ureste earned 31 merit badges as a Boy Scout in BSA Troop 364 at Our Lady of Victory Cathedral, and served in the elected positions of Quartermaster, Instructor, Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, and Senior Patrol Leader.
He was awarded the Order of the Arrow in 2009, and completed the high adventure expedition to Charles A. Sommers Northern Tier Canoe Base in Ely, Minn.
Joseph is a senior at Victoria East High School where he is on the varsity tennis team. He plans to attend Texas Tech University to pursue a mechanical engineering degree. He is the son of Eden Yaklin of Victoria, and Mark Ureste of San Antonio.
