Well they are trying but there is nothing so far that has any bite most people are keeping interest in.
For most cities downtown area is a hard pitch being it is M-F 8-5pm type of area, several cities I've lived in have tried, come 5pm people are ready for a mass exodus from the area. It is like telling kids on the last day of school to stay just two or three more hours after school.
As far a filming, one area of the family is in the film industry and made several successful movies in Austin. Hollywood studios want everything shipped and meetings done in CA, they had to toss in the towel in making Austin a movie hot spot and move to LA. So it is a huge struggle with Independent films financial wise, and people feel they are too "artsy" some are, but a lot are very good.

game05,I'm one of those "don't go downtown" types that thinks it's too expensive. I'm not an artsy fartsy person. I'm the kind of person that watched Forrest Gump 3 years after it hit the theatre. I would pay $500.00 to golf at the right golf course. I think this film festival is a fine activity for those that like this kind of thing and would never try to stop anyone from attending.
My only problem is the fact that a free money trough was opened up for this kind of thing and after the trough closed, here comes the FFF trying to get free money. Now how many times do you think the city council would schedule a special meeting for jasonbourne? If you guessed "zero" you are all over it.
awesome! exactly what Victoria needs. you see, help sponsor a unique and fun event here and all the surrounding businesses will benefit, too. and it's nice to hear that the downtown businesses stayed open longer than their usual three hours.
but we haven't yet heard the usual cry of "it's too expensive!" from the people who don't ever go downtown (or go out at all) and so therefore think it's wasted money.
Well isn't that just great for downtown businesses!! Isn't there something else that can be done to assist them in their business endeavors?? Those poor downtown people, somebody should do more for them, I say.
