A Victoria man is set to go to trial on assault charges this week.
Damien Lavar Barefield, 32, faces one count of third-degree felony assault.
He was indicted on the charge in May 2011.
In February 2011, Barefield injured his then-girlfriend Tiffany Garner by placing his hands around her throat and squeezing, according to the indictment.
Barefield, who is being represented by attorney Micah Hatley, had a previous conviction in September 2003 for assaulting a family member.
District Judge Robert Cheshire will preside over the case.
A start date for the trial will be announced later this week.
