AARP honors member at meeting

AARP Chapter 829-Victoria honored member Goldie Wilkins with a going-away party. Wilkins is moving back to Ohio after working 18 years at the Victoria County Senior Citizens center. AARP Chapter 829-Victoria hosted a going-away party honoring member Goldie Wilkins at the March 27 meeting. The meeting was at the Victoria County Senior Citizens center on Murray Street at 1 p.m. Wilkins has worked at the Senior Center for the past 18 years and served as the co-coordinator for senior services, home delivered meals, transportation and congregate meals. She served on the Sunshine committee, AARP newsletter committee and arrangements committee for the AARP Chapter.

She is moving back to Ohio to be closer to her family.

Dr. Efren Diaz DeLeon, president opened the meeting with a brief business session informing the members that the AARP Gulf Coast District Picnic will be hosted by the Fort Bend and Katy AARP Chapters this year on Saturday, April 14 at the Rosenberg Civic and Convention Center, 3825 Highway 36 S., Rosenberg.

It was also noted that there will not be a meeting in April.

The Memorial Day picnic will be Friday, May 25, at the Boulevard Lions Club pavilion in Riverside Park hosted by the Victoria County Senior Citizens Association.

The May 29 AARP meeting will be a panel discussion on Long Term Care and Advanced Directives.
