Victoria Amateur Radio Club announces new emergency coordinator
The Victoria Amateur Radio Club named a new Victoria County emergency coordinator for the Amateur Radio Emergency Services, an arm of the national organization, American Radio Relay League.
John Wagner, of Victoria, will serve as a director and liaison for the amateur radio service provided to the area emergency services organizations, including police, fire, emergency operations center, and other services, in times of communications outages caused by disasters such as hurricanes, and other occurrences that disrupt or overload regular communications.
Victoria is generally considered a hub for many of these services, including the emergency operations center and Texas Department of Public Safety.
Wagner also serves in several other related services in the area, including Military Auxiliary Relay Services, which provides messaging for our troops in combat areas who have no other conventional communications.
He serves in the Civil Air Patrol, as well as the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service, which is a division under the Texas Department of Public Safety.
He also volunteers his time with other radio groups during such area events as the Victoria Outdoor Expo, the Texas Water Safari, and MS150 events. He operates several local radio facilities that are used exclusively for emergency communications.
