Louisville may have had the Kentucky Derby, but Victoria's finest know how to spend tea time.
Girls dressed in pink dresses, pearls and flowers to celebrate the second annual Mommy & Me Tea at the Children's Discovery Museum.
Brandy Varna missed out on last year's event, but got her ticket as soon as she could to spend time with her oldest daughter.
The mother/daughter duo had a practice session, had fun picking out their outfits, and painting their nails before the festivities.
Varna, 34, said Saturday was a special time for her and Marina Varna. The 4-year-old already has developed finer taste, and her mother made slight concessions to share the full experience.
"I'm not a fan of tea," she said. "But I'll drink some for her today."
The 27 attendees, including the Varnas, made photo frames, place cards and flower arrangements, posed for pictures, learned about etiquette, and of course, drank tea during the two-hour session.
Classical music played in the background. Organizers said the workshop was such a hit last year, they decided to make it a museum staple.
Krista Richards, the museum chair, said it's an opportunity to have fun while learning about social graces. She also said the girls expressed their excitement to her about dressing up.
"They said to me, 'I put my outfit together myself,'" Richards said.
Mothers and daughters enjoyed themselves at the various stations. "Mommy, I want my tea thing," said 4-year-old Ambri Pawlik.
She and friend, Lucy Walters, even wore feather-lined hats.
The tables were filled with mementos and treats, "I think we need a bigger table," said Sandy Walters, Lucy's mother.
Varna described her daughter as a wonderful helper and meticulously organized. She asked Marina, "What was your favorite part about today?"
"The flowers," Marina responded.
Her mother followed up and wondered whether she wanted to come back. She said yes. "It was so much fun," Brandy Varna said.
Before the doting pair walked to the door, Marina put on her pink shades and white gloves because that's what a young lady does.
