Victoria Central Appraisal District sends out property value notices

Property owners whose appraised property value increased by more than $1,000 from last year, should have received a notice of the 2012 appraised value from the Victoria Central Appraisal district.

The appraisal district mailed about 19,000 notices this month.

State law requires county appraisal districts to notify property owners about property values of $1,000 or more. In addition, new property owners will receive appraisal notices which contain important information about the property's location, ownership and property tax exemptions that have been applied. It must include an estimate of 2012 taxes by local taxing units, including the city, county and school district.

Property owners who disagree with their property's appraisal, exemptions or any other action by the appraisal district can appeal to the Victoria Central Appraisal Review Board. The board is an independent panel of residents responsible for hearing and settling property owner protests.

The deadline for filing a protest with the board is June 8, or 30 days after the appraisal district mailed you a notice of appraised value, whichever is later.
