  • Sure this is front page news. I am a parent of 2 elementary school children and I don't wont this buried in the entertainment section. Parents need to know what is going on in our schools and what is going on with the other kids or kids are hanging out with. This stuff is bad, ask any ER Dr., and nothing to joke around about.

  • Being on the front page may help some parents become aware of this stuff. If there was one there is probably more.

  • Mr. Williams,
Yes, we have printed stories about Relay for Life and cancer victims many times on the front page. This was just one recent link to one of many stories.

  • VictoriaAdvocateStaff,

The link you provided was to the Entertainment page. Was the news of the Relay for Life frontpage or somewhere much deeper in the paper?

I have to agree, this is not front page news.

I guess 75 years ago it would have been front page news if a 5th grader brought a "chaw" of tobacco to school. Let's look for some positive items about our children to put on the front page and not the negative actions of 1 student.

  • my kids are in elementary and i sure dont need one of these kids passing around illegal substance im my childs school.. so yes i feel the parent shoulg be fined. You cant think that this is laying around elementary schools for them to be picked up off the ground? I work with alot of kids these days and if you would sit down and talk to some of them there troubles come from not having the "family" figures at home to discipline them or they think this is the only way for a kid to make is (being in the game)...

  • Wow.

    May 17, 2012 at 8 a.m.
  • There wasn't any mention in the article of notifying the child's parents, only the parents of the children that he/she shared with.
    Explanations?

    May 17, 2012 at 7:31 a.m.
  • Seriously Gtg69? I think you are taking it too far. The parents should not be fined. For all you know the kid walked to school and picked it up on the ground. I am all for parents disciplining their child, but lets be real. This child probably didn't even do anything with it just thought it was cool. "The parents should be fined." Gimme a break.....

  • So does this mean no candy cigarettes? Perhaps a M&M might confuse law inforcement as a birth control pill. I feel we are operating in a might be could be so lets react just in case mode.

  • I do not know why the newspaper has to put this on the front page. This is one student. WHERE was the newspaper when Shield's relay for life raised thousands of dollars for Relay For Life? Where was the newspaper when the student council won a National Award? Why do they always look for the negative in the schools and plaster all over the front page? The schools need the Advocate to publish as much positive as possible.

  • it doesn't look like marijuana.... doesn't smell like marijuana... doesn't give you the same high as marijuana.. why is it so hard for them to determine if it was real or not? also i doubt that somebody would buy this BS synthetic marijuana crap and then place their real stash of bud in the package.
it wouldn't surprise me if they find out years down the road that it causes brain tumors or something.
prohibition of a harmless plant has allowed for harmful synthetic crap such as this to become popular... good job big brother!

    May 17, 2012 at 4:52 a.m.
  • Oh yes also the child should of got at least 10 very hard pops at school, made to pick up trash , ect...and then a week of no tv, no radio, made to do extra school work at home parents need to help!!! And if they can't control the child then the state should take them!!!!

  • Wonder how many times kids bring alcohol to scool?? Just remember when kids do things like this, it's the parents fault end of discussion!!!!!!!!! The parent should be fined, and the child should be beaten into submission, taught to mind!! Obey!! Be seen and not heard!!

    May 17, 2012 at 3:08 a.m.
  • you can get high from it,but its not the same high as real marijuana. Its stupid fake crap.

    May 16, 2012 at 11:04 p.m.
  • Ooooohhhh. I must be getting old! So if it looks like mary jane, does it get one high like mary jane?

    May 16, 2012 at 9:34 p.m.
  • That's why its called "synthetic".It doesn't smell like marijuana, just made to look like it.

    May 16, 2012 at 7:58 p.m.
  • I think the smell alone should let one know if it is weed!
