The Emergency Operations Center for Goliad County opens any time there is a significant or pending event that may potentially require the mobilization of resources.
"Yes, we are currently upgrading our EOC with basic items such as a television, LCD projector, computer, cellphone booster antenna, and wireless connectivity," said director Peggy Fonseca.
Fonseca encourages residents to be prepared for any emergency by registering their email address, home, cell and work phones with the county's Reverse 911 system. The system also has texting capabilities, Fonseca said.
The past few hurricane seasons have not required the use of the EOC, but Fonseca said the county remains prepared in case of future disasters.
"The information from the National Weather Service is a major component in our activating the EOC and of course any local event will play into our activation," Fonseca said. "We will also work closely with our neighboring communities to ensure we are all working toward the same common goal."
