Republican runoff set for Wharton County District Attorney
WHARTON - The current Wharton County assistant district attorney and a former prosecutor will face each other in a runoff on July 31 for the Republican Party nomination for Wharton County DA.
Ross Kurtz, the current assistant DA, received 1,929 votes. John Roades tallied 1,616 and Dawn Allison received 1,227.
"I am very encouraged and very grateful to have received 40 percent of the vote," Kurtz said. "I plan to keep working hard to make sure my message gets out to the public."
Roades, too, was pleased with making the runoff.
"We feel good about making the runoff. It's where we wanted to be. It's like a track meet, this was the prelims, not we're going to run in the finals."
There is no Democratic candidate for district attorney.
Incumbent District Attorney Josh McCown plans to retire at the end of the term.
McCown has been district attorney since his appointment in October 1995.
