DEWITT COUNTY SUPERINTENDENTS

Three school districts in DeWitt County are not changing superintendents. These administrators include:

• Deborah Kneese, Yorktown ISD, hired 2005

• Tom Kelley, Yoakum ISD, hired 2007

• David Kennedy, Westhoff ISD, hired 2010.

Jim Haley is the new superintendent of schools in Cuero, one of three new superintendents in DeWitt County for the 2012-13 school year.

Haley was officially hired during a special session of the board of trustees May 24 to replace Henry Lind.

"I was very familiar with the Cuero school district. It's about the same size as Sweeny," said Haley, who was assistant superintendent for state and federal programs, curriculum and compliance in the Sweeny school district.

Sweeny is in western Brazoria County.

"I see a lot of potential. There is a lot of growth and development going on in Cuero, and I am excited to be a part of that," he said. "I am excited to be able to serve a school district with Cuero's reputation. That's very important to me."

The graduate of Abilene Christian University and Sul Ross State University also has worked as a superintendent in the Damon and the Waelder school districts.

Haley begins work in Cuero on Friday.

MEYERSVILLE

On May 15, the Meyersville school board hired Tina Herrington to replace longtime superintendent Laura Whitson, who is retiring.

Herrington is the secondary principal and district curriculum director in the Schulenburg school district.

She began her career as a teacher in Weimar and later served as an assistant superintendent in Sealy and Goliad.

"I was attracted to Meyersville ISD because of the rural environment and my passion for working with students in grades K-8," Herrington said. "I am very excited to follow in the footsteps of Laura Whitson. I look forward to carrying on the tradition of excellence in the Meyersville ISD."

In addition to her school district duties, Herrington has worked as a faculty member and adjunct for the University of Houston-Victoria, where she teaches reading methods courses.

She begins her duties as superintendent and principal in Meyersville on Monday.

NORDHEIM

On May 23, the Nordheim school district board of trustees named Kevin Wilson of the North Hopkins school district as the lone finalist for its open superintendent position.

Wilson is the principal of North Hopkins High School near Sulphur Springs.

In March, the school board hired the Texas Association of School Board Executive Search Services to conduct the search for a new superintendent to replace Sonya Little.

"I have had my superintendent's certification for a couple of years, and this was the first time I had really started applying," said Wilson, who coached in Louise in 1990. "I am very familiar with South Texas."

Wilson is a graduate of Stephen F. Austin University with a master's degree from Texas A&M-Commerce.

"I like smaller school districts," Wilson said. "And there are some really good people in Nordheim. I was very impressed when I visited there."

The Nordheim school board can officially offer Wilson the position on June 18.
