Second all-star baseball game was a success
Victoria College and Chick-Fil-A hosted the second high school all-star baseball game this past weekend at Riverside Park.
The event was a great success with 34 high school seniors from 15 local schools participating.
The game was very competitive with the White team winning 7-6 in the bottom of the ninth inning on a hit from Calhoun's Royce Williams.
Williams and the Maroon team's John Garcia from Victoria East were selected as the MVPs for their respective teams.
The first pitch was thrown out by Winston Wheeler and caught by his son, Jeff. The Wheelers were accompanied by fellow Friends of Victoria Baseball members. The Friends where honored at the game for their years of hard work and dedication put into the restoration and maintenance of Riverside Stadium.
Victoria College would like to thank David and Tammy Murphy of Chick-Fil-A and Blake Koch, Victoria Generals general manager, for making this event a success for the athletes.
VC Baseball would also like to announce the first tryout dates for the 2012-13 season.
The tryouts will be held July 7 at the VISD Special Events Baseball Field located next to Memorial Stadium on Airline Road.
Pitchers and catchers will be at 10 a.m. and infielders and outfielders follow at 2 p.m. There is a $10 tryout fee.
