Shiner Catholic Church hosts strudel bake

Nov. 2, 2012 at 6:02 a.m.

While hard work is a vital part of the huge task of rolling and assembling 3,000 strudels, these three ladies prove that a touch of humor and a generous helping of smiles also plays a major role at the Shiner Strudel Bake. Virginia Pustka, center, and her two daughters, Karen Pustka and Rebecca Till, are shown taking a break in the action at the 2011 Strudel Bake.

For the 26th year, volunteers and friends of the Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner will come together to make homemade apple strudels.

Last year, a new record of 3,000 strudels were made at this one-day event.

Advance orders are required and must be placed by Thursday.

The price is $14 for unbaked strudel, complete with simple baking instructions. The unbaked variety is by far the most popular. They can be made fresh at home and keep for months in the freezer.
