I hope everyone is enjoying this cool weather and you are ready to get out and do something special this next weekend.
We just happen to have something special coming up Saturday. It's time for our third annual Holiday Market Day and Christmas Bazaar at the Victoria Art League.
Our Market Day will have booths set up inside our gallery and outside in our patio area with all kinds of gift items for sale in time for the holidays.
Arts, crafts, jewelry, photography, pottery and a wide variety of other unique gifts are available for you to do some early Christmas shopping.
We will start at 9 a.m. and continue until 4 p.m. at 905 S. Bridge.
This will also be the start of our Christmas Bazaar which will continue until Dec. 21. The gallery will be decorated with ornamented Christmas trees that you can buy, and other items will be on display around the gallery that can be purchased also.
Our gallery hours are from 1-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Make plans to come out and see all that is going on Saturday and come by and visit us any time before Christmas to check out our bazaar.
There are still a few booths to rent. If anyone is interested, call 361-572-0825 to sign up.
We had a very successful art show and reception Oct. 14 with Amber Stratman winning Best of Show honors. The other winners and those who placed in the various categories were separately listed at another time. The show will continue in the gallery of the Art League until Friday. Be sure to visit the great work created by artists in the area and vote for People's Choice.
I mentioned in my last column a new art class starting up called "Painting the Town" in which someone who has never really painted before could purchase a canvas with a subject already on it. The class will follow the instructor in completing a painting in a two-hour session. It has been a great success where friends and individuals get together and have fun painting something to take home. Since my last column, classes have met the last three Wednesdays and one this past Monday, four in all. Thanks to Eunice Collins for putting this all together and for Ronnie Chambers for his great instruction. Come join the fun. Call Collins at 361-576-4443 for information.
Michelle Evans continues with her children's classes afternoons from 3-4 p.m. Monday through Thursdays with pottery being taught on Wednesdays. Call her at 361-649-8092.
Jim Feig will be finishing his beginners' photography class this month, and I will finish my experienced pottery class with a Raku pottery firing on Thursday.
Angie Banta Brown will demonstrate painting cards with acrylic or watercolor at our monthly meeting, from 2:30-4 p.m. Sunday.
Come about 2 p.m. for a little time for visiting and refreshments. She will be offering a workshop on painting Christmas cards with watercolors or acrylics on Nov. 12. The cost will be $67. The class will meet from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Call 361-575-2175 for information if interested.
I took Brown's watercolor workshop earlier this year, and she is very good and a good instructor. I'll be there.
As for our old historical building, we continue to make improvements. Panels were replaced over the classroom, but the best thing that happened this past month is when Thad Parker repaired the panels. I asked him if he could repair some serious leaks over the pottery room, and he did a great job. No leaks. Now, we are going to concentrate on the roof over the gallery which leaks. This is our last big project since the rest of the roof has been redone. That is going to take big bucks, more than we have for sure. If any of you out there know any avenues to find funds for restoring old buildings, contact me at 361-575-3216.
As I mentioned at the beginning of this column, get outside, enjoy this wonderful, cool weather while it lasts and come see us at the Victoria Art League.
