Emergency personnel clean up debris at the scene of a vehicle and motorcycle wreck Monday afternoon in Victoria. Roger Balerio was westbound on his blue Yamaha motorcycle on Red River Street when his motorcycle collided with a Mazda CX7 driven by Rosa Richard. Richard was eastbound, waiting to turn onto De Leon Street to pick up her daughter from St. Joseph High School.

A motorcyclist was taken to the hospital after a wreck on Monday afternoon.

Roger Balerio was westbound on his blue Yamaha motorcycle on Red River Street when his vehicle collided with a Mazda CX7 driven by Rosa Richard, said Victoria Police Officer David Brogger.

Richard was eastbound, waiting to turn onto De Leon Street to pick up her daughter from St. Joseph High School.

Richard didn't see Balerio coming. The two vehicles collided, and Balerio landed on the hood of the Mazda, cracking the windshield, she said.

"All of the sudden, he was on top of my car," Richard said.

Balerio's shoes came off his feet during the collision, she said.

He was transported to Citizens Medical Center, Brogger said. Brogger said police were investigating but no citations were issued at the scene.

Balerio was still in the hospital in stable condition Monday evening.

"Thank God he had a helmet on," Richard said.
