Precinct 3 voters picked Gary Burns, the Republican incumbent, to another term on the Victoria County Commissioners Court.

"I really appreciate all the work my family has done - my family, my friends, my church," Burns said. "It was a lot of work."

He was first elected to office in 2004.

Burns emphasized economic growth during his tenure and campaign and has taken roles in promoting health and wellness through his board position with Gulf Bend.

Burns said there are a lot of countywide problems to address and some weighty decisions to be made, especially regarding Citizens Medical Center and the county's future economic growth.

"I'm not doing anything different. I get in the middle of everything and I've got a great crew that makes my job a lot easier," Burns said.

His opponent, Rey Herrera, a sheriff's deputy, said although he was disappointed, it was a good race.

"It's not that we didn't try," Herrera said. "If it's not me, it's going to be somebody else, and I'll be totally supportive. We need to get some new blood out there."
