HOW TO HELP

If you have information on the whereabouts of Estevan Marin call the Port Lavaca Police Department at 361-552-3788

A Port Lavaca teen is missing and his family is hoping to track him down.

Estevan Marin, 16, ran away from his family on Oct. 26. He walked away from his mother, Catherine Rosenbrock, after the two had a disagreement during a football game at Sandcrab Stadium.

"I'm trying to get it out in the community in the hopes that someone will help me find him" Rosenbrock said.

She said she fears that he will make some bad choices while he's out on the street that will lead the teen, who is on juvenile probation, into more legal problems.

Rosenbrock is working with the Port Lavaca Police Department and the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department to track down her son, she said.

Estevan, a sophomore at Calhoun High School, is listed on a state and national runaway registry as an "endangered runaway," Rosenbrock said.

He is registered so that if he is found in another jurisdiction, local law enforcement will be notified, Port Lavaca Police Chief James Martinez said.

"The longer he's out there, the more chance there is of his not coming back home to me. I want to get him back home to safety as soon as possible," Rosenbrock said.

Since Estevan was reported missing, Martinez said police have responded to every reported sighting of the youth. If they do find him, they'll notify his parents, he said. He noted that right now police have no reason to believe that Estevan is in serious danger. He'll be listed as a runaway until he is found.

Martinez said it's not uncommon for young people to run away. They often stay with friends and are usually found within a few days.

"They usually don't want to be found," he said. "We want to see these things to the safe and logical conclusion, so our goal is to see that this young man is returned to his parents."
