Trends: Steers and heifers, steady/active.

Steers: (200-300) $157-$245; (300-400) $135-$210; (400-500) $124-$194; (500-600) $114-$153; (600-700) $102-$140; and (700-800) $93-$134.

Heifers: (200-300) $152-$235; (300-400) $126-$197; (400-500) $111-$161; (500-600) $103-$135; (600-700) $101-$127; and (700-800) $89-$117.

Slaughter cows: $40-$77; slaughter bulls, $60-$90; stocker cows, $60-$89; bred cows, $900-$1,510; pairs, $1,040-$1,500; horses, none.

Receipts: 1,908

Had 150 cows and 16 bulls. The packer market continued to be steady with last few weeks in line with the seasonal trend.

The calf market was again somewhat lower across the board. It was a very active market. The lighter classes of quality calves were the least affected while the heavier classes of calves were substantially lower with bull calves suffering the worst as much as $3 to $4/cwt cheaper. Some of the highs were $4 to $6/cwt lower but the raw averages were not. In summary, the lighter calves were strong under 400 pounds. Four to five weights were steady; 5 to 6 weights $1 to $2/cwt lower with 6 to 7 weight steers $2 to $3 lower and bulls $3 to $4 lower.

Packer bulls: Heavy weights, $87-$96; lower grades, $70-$84.

Packer cows: breakers, $68-$75; boning cows, $65-$75; canners and cutters, $60-$77; one young heifer went to packer for $85; light and weak, $40-$55.

Palpated dry cows: none; pairs: (only four sold) $1,250-$1,460.

Steer calves: (under 200) $180-$220; (200-250) $177-$200; (250-300) $214-$228; (300-350) $180-$230;(350-400) $196-$216; (400-450) $181-$196; (450-500) $161-$200; (500-600) $142-$168; (550-600) $132-$141;(600-700) $129-$136; (700-800) $123-$130.

Compared to last week: The market this week continued to be very active. Better quality and better conditioned classes sold fully steady with instances $2 to $3 higher. Plainer quality and very fleshy classes remain steady at best.

Packer cows and bulls sold steady to $1 lower on about 100 head total.

Packer cows: Higher dressing utility and cutter cows, $71-$82; lower dressing utility and cutter cows, $60-$71; light weight canner cows, $50-$61.

Packer bulls: Heavyweight bulls, $91-$94; utility and cutter bulls, $85-$91; light weight canner bulls, $77-$85.
