Sandra Cochran was chosen as one of GC's top veterinarians for her work spaying and neutering dogs and cats at Adopt-A-Pet and for actively working with various organizations to reduce pet overpopulation while still seeing animals for injuries or illnesses. Bonnie Hahn nominated Cochran because of her dedication to animals. She wrote in her letter, "She does so much volunteer work and donates money and her time because she really does care for animals."
Why did you become a veterinarian?
I became a veterinarian because I was interested in biology and medicine and felt I could accomplish more as an animal doctor than as a human doctor.
How long have you been working with animals?
I have actively been working with animals since I began college in 1971.
What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is being able to use my knowledge and skills to improve the quality of life of animals, their owners and the community.
What has been your most memorable experience as an animal doctor?
My most memorable experience as an animal doctor was working at the United States Military Academy where I was a veterinarian for the Army Mascot Mules and working dogs.
What's the most exotic animal you've worked on?
The most exotic animal I have worked on is a mountain lion who was confiscated from her owner for providing inappropriate nutrition and housing. I was able to keep her for the rest of her life.
