Scarlet Swoboda, Victoria's city secretary, was elected trustee of the Texas Municipal Clerks Association, Inc., at its annual meeting in San Marcos on Oct. 18.

Berika Williams, Web services librarian at the Victoria College/University of Houston-Victoria Library, was selected to participate in the American Library Association's Emerging Leaders Program. Williams has worked for the library for two years and previously worked as an acquisitions assistant at the UH O'Quinn Law Library.

Craig Goodman recently was hired as an assistant professor in the University of Houston-Victoria School of Arts and Sciences. He teaches political science and researches American politics, specializing in Congress and the presidency. Goodman holds a doctorate from UH and previously taught at Texas Tech University.

Jeffrey Cass, provost and vice president for academic affairs for the University of Houston-Victoria, recently was asked to join the Education Workforce Task Force organized by state Rep. Todd Hunter. The task force will address the challenges in getting graduates ready for the growing job market in South Texas as well as strengthen the relationships and programs between public schools, higher education and the private sector.
