Doreta Keith, program chairman of the day, introduced Sherry Kocian, administrative assistant to her husband, Ron Kocian, founder and president of Warrior's Weekend. This event is in its seventh year of serving our wounded military heroes.

In 2007, Warrior's Weekend began with 55 soldiers attending. In May 2012, 450 soldiers from many states came to the three day event. The soldiers had flown to Houston, boarded chartered buses and were given a police escort through towns along the way to Victoria.

They arrived at the Field of Honor where over 2,000 flags were planted and attended a dedication ceremony at Faith Family Church. The soldiers then were then taken to Port O'Connor for the weekend.

Warrior's Weekend has no paid staff. There are 200 volunteers who make this event successful. The cost to bus, feed and house these veterans for 3 days is between $300,000 to $400,000. There will be a fundraiser on March 16, 2013. Warrior's Weekend is May 17-19, 2013.

Sally Barnes and Joan Mathieu were admitted as new members. Doreta Keith reminded members to send their reservation to her for the Christmas luncheon on Dec. 11 at the Country Club.
