Victoria resident wins powerlifting title

LAS VEGAS - Victoria's Chris Papillion won his second consecutive Olympia Pro Powerlifting championship.
Papillion captured the 242-pound division title during Friday's competition at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Papillion had a squat of 804 pounds, a bench press of 600 pounds and a dead lift of 771 pounds for a total lift of 2,177 pounds.
The competition was held among the top three lifters in the nation in each weight classification.
Papillion, a Stroman graduate, was ranked second going into the competition and beat top-ranked Scott Smith by 56 pounds.
"It was too close," Papillion said. "I wanted to win by more."
