Her name is Debbie. She travels across Texas, visiting cancer patients and spreading hope to families.
And she is a truck - a pink fire truck.
"I was speechless when I heard them name the truck," said Debbie Breeden, namesake of the pink fire truck for the Guardians of the Ribbon, South Texas Chapter. "It is an honor to be able to represent all of these people who are battling cancer or those who have been touched by it."
Breeden, a breast cancer survivor of more than three years, has been the administrative assistant for the Victoria Fire Department for 31 years.
Wendell Geigle, a Victoria firefighter and founder of the Guardians of the Ribbon in Victoria, said they named the truck after Debbie because of her positivity.
"She is the person who has always been in the front office. She is the person you meet when you first get hired. She is just that warm, wonderful person when you come in," Geigle said.
Breeden said she tries to accompany the pink fire truck on her travels, but she does not always have the time off.
"I go when I can to some of their events and I try to help all I can, but I work and ... I've used all of my sick time for surgeries," she said.
After going through a double mastectomy to battle cancer, Breeden has had 10 reconstructive surgeries - all of which failed.
Guardians of the Ribbon keeps all of the money raised in the Crossroads area and helps patients and families with bills, medical expenses and other needs.
Breeden, who has felt the financial and emotional burden of battling cancer, said the value of the organization is priceless.
"It doesn't just touch the ones who have or have had cancer, it touches other family members as well and is a big support for them," Breeden said.
