Susan Moore

Name: Susan Moore

Age: 56

City/county of residence: Goliad, Goliad County

Office Seeking: Justice of the Peace Precinct 1

Party Affiliation: Republican

Occupation: Case manager for Texas Corrections Office for Offenders with Medical and Mental Impairments

Why do you want to serve in the office you are seeking?

My interest in the position is due to my work experience and educational background associated with the legal system. A justice of the peace is an important role in the community - much more than presiding over traffic tickets. It is a crucial and interesting local government department.

What qualifies you to serve in this office?

I have a degree in criminal justice and behavioral sciences. I have taught criminal justices classes at Tallahassee Community College while living in Florida. I served as a parole officer for 15 years with six years in a supervisory role and five years as a probation officer. I have three years experience as a child protection investigator in Florida. I am currently employed as a case manager and work with parolees with mental health impairments covering a seven county area. My best qualification is my ability to work with people of all walks of life.

If elected, how will you go about serving your constituents?

I would dedicate myself full time to the position and be available anytime I was needed. I believe in following the letter of the law, which assures equal treatment for all who walk into my court. I will be fair regardless of where they are from or what they have done.

Is there anything else you would like to discuss concerning your election?

I have served Goliad County as a volunteer in many areas and will continue to do so. I have served on the city council, chamber of commerce, hotel/motel tax board and the economic development board as well as the Golden Crescent Regional Planning Commission. I promise to be fair, courteous and impartial.

City/county of residence: Goliad

Office Seeking: Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1

Party Affiliation: Democrat

Occupation: Chief Justice Court Clerk, Precinct 2, Goliad County

Why do you want to serve in the office you are seeking?

I have been working as a justice court clerk and have observed how a justice of the peace can have a very positive impact in a community. People see the justice of the peace for problems other than having a traffic ticket. I want to serve in that position because I will preform the duties of the office in a professional, courteous and fair manner.

What qualifies you to serve in this office?

I have over eight continuous years of experience working as a justice court clerk, including over three as a chief justice court clerk. I have been certified as a justice court clerk by the Texas Justice Court Training Center. My experience includes expertise in both civil and criminal justice procedures. Every year I have attended training covering the latest changes in laws and procedural rules.

If elected, how will you go about serving your constituents?

I would be a full-time justice of the peace and available as needed other than normal business hours.

Is there anything else you would like to discuss concerning your election?

I would like to emphasize I would do my best to have a good working relationship with other agencies and county departments. I would also do my best to make certain that a person, even if they didn't agree with a decision I've made, leave the office feeling they were treated in a timely, courteous and fair manner.
