Bringing families together - that's the goal of the annual Boulevard Lions Club Family Fishing Day.
"It's intended to be a family outing. To enjoy time together," said Lion Lynn Moore, event chairman. "As a Lions Club we promote family togetherness and support.
"This is an opportunity for families to spend some quality time together."
That quality time starts at 9 a.m. Saturday at Ethel Lee Tracy Park, 701 E. Larkspur St.
The 14th annual event is open to everyone, and the fishing is free. The need for a fishing license is also suspended for the day at the event.
The Lions Club will have loaner rods and reels, as well as bait for the anglers.
Members of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will be on hand to provide assistance as well as other educational opportunities.
Game wardens will clean and fillet the fish, and families can take their catch home with them.
There also will be a live animal exhibit, a U.S. Coast Guard boat on display and concessions for sale by the Rowland Elementary Student Council and Our Lady Of Victory Leos Club.
Games and other activities are planned, and prizes will be awarded for various fishing "achievements."
Families are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch, said Moore.
"Every year, we have kids that have never fished before," Moore said. "This is such a great opportunity. Come on out and give it a shot."
