Bronte Club of Victoria hosts meeting

The first meeting of the 2012-13 Bronte Club of Victoria was called to order by Jamie McMahon, president, on Oct. 3 at 3 p.m. at the Victoria Women's Clubhouse, 1408 N. Moody St.

The Bronte Club members were led in the Club Collect and pledges of allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and Texas flag. Roll was called and the minutes of the Bronte Club meeting of May 16, 2012, were read.

President McMahon welcomed back Bronte Club members to an exciting year ahead and introduced her theme for the year, "Perspectives."

Bronte member Suzanne LaBrecque introduced the guest speaker, Lloyd B. Potter, Ph.D., M.P.H., a Texas state demographer. Dr. Potter gave an enlightening public affairs presentation, "Demographic Characteristics and Trends in Texas and the Golden Crescent Region."

President McMahon reminded members of the next Bronte Club meeting on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Victoria Women's Club House. The Texas heritage program, "The Great Comanche Raid," will be presented by historian Tom Maroney and is Bronte Club's guest day.

The meeting was adjourned for the tea hour presented by Bronte hostesses, Jan Marchbanks, Vicki Bauknight, Penni Gietz, Libby Horine and Suzanne LaBrecque.
