Schneider National, a national trucking company with operations in Victoria, recently eliminated a number of driving positions in the Crossroads.
After the reduction, about 25 positions were retained, according to a written statement from Schneider. All drivers were offered driving roles in other areas of the company.
Schneider officials did not specify the number of drivers affected but attributed the move to economic reasons.
"Like all companies, Schneider National's business is heavily influenced by demand in the marketplace," the statement said. "Our energy transportation services business in Victoria, Texas, is not immune from this reality and is undergoing a reduction in its driver workforce."
Schneider officials said they would call back drivers as demand increases, according to the emailed statement.
The Green Bay, Wis.-based Schneider provides a variety of truckload, logistics and intermodal services, according to the company's website. It has been in business for more than 76 years.
Henry Guajardo, executive director of Workforce Solutions of the Golden Crescent, said the center was prepared to help individuals find work if needed.
Now is a good time to search for truck driver jobs, Guajardo said, noting the center has more than 100 available positions listed.
"Any of those affected need to go to the nearest workforce center and register for work," Guajardo said.
