The Victoria County Sheriff's Office is investigating the Sunday death of a Nursery man.
Sheriff's deputies received a call Sunday evening from a home in the 200 block of McCormick Street in Nursery.
Walter Brummett, 61, of Nursery, was found dead in the house, Chief Deputy Terry Simons said.
Justice of the Peace Richard Castillo said he ordered an autopsy of the body to be conducted by the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office in Austin. He said he expects to receive preliminary results Tuesday.
"We are investigating a death. Once the cause and manner of death are determined, we'll know whether we're investigating further," Simons said.
Brummett grew up in Goliad, his brother David Brummett said, and worked as a welder for years. He was interested in boats, cars, motorcycles and learned how to build them.
Doug Schaefer, who was friends with Brummett for more than 30 years, described him as a man who loved to catch up with old friends and tell stories.
"He was just an all-around guy. He'd give you the shirt off his back if you needed it," Schaefer said.
