Chomp! La Hacienda tastes a little like home

TRY THISOn the front of their menu, they advertise for their fried avocados. I've tried them once, but it was a too much avocado. It's definitely something worth splitting with another person. But the shrimp was good and cheesy, too.

Mole sauce has always had a place in my heart. I could never find a place that included it on the menu in Las Cruces, N.M., but when I studied abroad in Zacatecas, Mexico, I was in heaven. Nearly every restaurant had it on their menu, and I ordered it almost every time we went out.
Now that I am here in Victoria, I remember the first time I ordered it at La Hacienda I ended up with something else. Always eager to eat, and not one to turn something away, I happily ate my plate and figured I could order it next time. I wasn't going anywhere, and the restaurant wasn't either.
When I ordered the Mexico enchiladas this time, our server placed the plate in front of me and the smells brought me back to the Zacatecas. The color of the mole was lighter than I remembered it, but it still had the savory flavor with a little spice and sweetness. The plate was served with two pieces of avocado and a dollop of sour cream, fresh pico de gallo, rice and beans. The rice was drier than I liked, but it was seasoned well.
There were two enchiladas rolled with flour tortillas and smothered with mole sauce and topped with Jack cheese. Inside each enchilada, I found a sparse amount of chicken. I had to go digging through the sauce to find more pieces of shredded dark and light meat, but I gave up after a while. I filled up on the chile con queso Kat and I split, and I had already devoured half of the enchiladas.
It was good, but I would've liked more chicken. I'll be very disappointed in myself if I find the rest of the chicken in my leftovers later. Who knows.
