Salute to First Responders

Organized by the Matagorda County Sheriff's Association. as a "thank you" to the people that never ask for one. This event will include more 20 first responding organizations, allowing area residents to meet officers, fireman, and EMS personnel and learn about their agency. There will be equipment displays, including the mobile emergency management center, police K-9's, ambulances, patrol boats and helicopters. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the "Constable Jerry Matthews-Salute to First Responders Scholarship." For more information contact Randy Worthy at 979-429-0061.



Matagorda Day Boil Blast

Shrimp eating contest and horseshoe contest with cash prizes at Matagorda Fireman's Hall in Matagorda on Sept. 29 at 10 a.m.. Live music all day including Larry Joe Taylor, Deryl Dodd and the Mike McClure Band. Sponsored by Matagorda Seafood Fest, Historical Society and Matagorda VFD. Quickbooks 2012- Hands-On Instruction" is set for Sat. Sept. 29th from 9 to 4:30 pm at the Business Development Center, 1900 5th Street. Registration is $99 person and includes instruction, manual,

The Keep Bay City Beautiful Committee is planning an event to celebrate Texas Recycles Day on Nov. 15. We would like the entire county to join in by saving all plastic shopping bags, so we can create a plastic mountain of "bags of bags." Peggy Georgi with the Palacios Recycling Center has expressed interest in joining us. Peggy Stanley is leading the charge in Matagorda. HEB has pledged a week's worth of the bags they recycle. The Chamber of Commerce is planning a mass email to its members, and several other businesses are beginning to save their bags. We plan to collect them at the Bay City Recycling Center, 1812 Avenue H, Bay City, on Nov. 15 to watch that "mountain" grow.



4th Annual PCMC Box Supper Fundraiser

Benefiting the Palacios Community Medical Center. Local "Chefs" are asked to prepare a box supper for two or more, hot or cold and ready to eat that evening. Sodas, beer and wine will be available for purchase. The box suppers will be auctioned off to the highest bidders by auctioneers Judge Nate McDonald and PCMC Board Member Dan Tucker. There will also be a Bucket Raffle and Live Auction. A new addition this year will be the availability of special box suppers for purchase to ensure everyone has a nice dinner for a reasonable price. The Wharton Economic Development Corp. is offering a seminar geared towards entrepreneurs as well as those business owners wanting to take it to the next level. 17th Annual Bay City Bull Blast

Presented by the Matagorda County Fair Assoc. Featuring 30 Championship Bull Riders, Mutton Bustin' and Junior Steer Saddling. Dance to the sounds of the SourMash Band at 9pm. USO Tribute Dance

On November 3, 2012 the Service Center/USO Building will host a unique and thrilling event, "The USO Tribute Dance, "A Canteen Social."" This celebration of the re-opening of the Service Center/USO Building (2105 Ave. M and 7th Street), will also help the community to raise funds to complete the project. You will have the opportunity to step back in time to the 40's when the place was hoppin' and the beat was jivin'. We need to raise approximately $150,000.00 to finish the renovation of the space, and you can help by bidding in a silent/live auction. So come, enjoy the music of Boogie Woogie Babes and the Knights of Dixie Orchestra, with adult beverages and canteen food, and help us raise money to complete the restoration of this historic landmark. Tickets are $35.00, adult beverage, extra. Come dance the night away, Saturday November 3, 7:00 pm to 11:00pm.



Shrimp Etouffee & Gumbo Fundraiser

The Blessing Knights of Columbus is sponsoring. Shrimp Etouffee and gumbo with rice, dessert and tea or coffee. Proceeds go to education programs and scholarships for our area youth. St. Peter's Catholic Church Parish - Blessing September 9 at 11 a.m.
